The St. James´ Primary School syllabus offers the best of both curricula: The English National Curriculum and Currículo Nacional Português with the aim to provide the students with everything they need to be citizens of the world. We work with both curricula getting the best out of each in terms of knowledge and capacity and maintaining a permanent dialogue with the Arts.
EDUCATION THROUGH ART – ART AND EDUCATION
The integral development of a personality is reached through the stimulus to sensitivity and imagination that the Arts provide. An aesthetic and artistic education allows for the formation of a global Being, in that it permits the development of cognitive potentialities in different times and contexts.
Art and Education is a continuous process that St. James´ Primary School believes in promoting, whether in formal environments or informal ones. This new educational genre permits the student to learn about the artistic language through aesthetics, production and the self expression of knowledge and visual grammaticism. Therefore the child will be able put into practice, readings of their own productions of language and image, of others and of the surrounding environment.
The objective of Art and Education in St. James´ is to stimulate creation, motivate experience, expression, sensitivity through art; the willingness to do, to be, to discover the other “Is”.
St. James´ Primary School believes that school knowledge is not a direct passage from a scientific one. It passes through a pedagogical intercession which considers and aims to treat each pupil as a unique individual, ensuring that the children gain confidence in their abilities and satisfaction in resolving their problems, thus also contributing and encouraging a sense of responsibility.
Our project is guided by the aim to create people who are increasingly more cultured, autonomous, responsible and free. The intention is to maximize the noble and higher qualities of each one – Future citizens with a collective destiny.
The creation of Drama, Instrument, Choir, Dance, Art and Design Clubs will last for a semester and will thus provide children with a more permanent and effective contact with their chosen activity. They are part of the curriculum and will be from 4pm till 5.30pm.
- Art and Design on Mondays, with the Plastic artist Marta Mercês
- Choir Club on Mondays, with the singer Cláudia Soares
